Tips for the use and maintenance of corona treaters

Useful advice for mantaining the efficiency of electrodes, cleaning the pressure roller, the insulators and the silicone sleeves.

Electrodes

To avoid overheating of ceramic electrodes and guarantee treatment uniformity clean every 3 months with water and soapy products, if necessary also use a rough sponge. Once you have removed any trace of dirt and soap, dry well.

To avoid to damage metallic electrodes with segments and guarantee treatment uniformity clean the electrodes every 3 months before segments attempt to block.

Procedure

  1. Remove the electrode group (see instruction inside the manual)
  2. Place the electrode group in a stable way (in order not to damage it) and clean very carefully using a high pressure power washer
  3. Dry well
  4. Lubricate with teflon spray, pay attention not to dirty the insulators (these would be damaged by this spray)
  5. Dry well avoiding that lubricate drip on the material
  6. Remount the station
  7. Check the distance between roll and electrode that has to be 1.5 – 1.6mm.

Insulators

Condensate drifting and dust deposits reduce the supports insulation and can cause short circuits. Every month clean the insulator with water and neutral soap. Remove any residual trace and dry well.
In addition, residual burnings may reduce insulation and can cause short circuits. Verify the presence of superficial burnings. In this case, remove them with emery cloth.

Nip rolls

To get a uniform fresh pressure all over the contact surface clean every 3 months by a cloth soaked with ethyl alcohol, methyl alcohol or ethyl acetate using the proper protection devices indicated in the safety instructions of these products. Do not directly pour or drip the product on the surface. Do not use solvents.

We remind you that the use of the nip roll avoid the back-side treatment effect (the treatment on the opposite side of the film). It’s also installed when the treating unit is used as a calander.

Silicone sleeve

Dust deposits could burn and cause perforation on the sleeve or on the vulcanization. In order to avoid this problem clean every 3 months by a cloth soaked with ethyl alcohol, methyl alcohol or ethyl acetate using the proper protection devices indicated in the safety instructions of these products.

Dry well (use a clean cloth in order to avoid cutting the silicone). Do not directly pour or drip the product on the surface. Do not use solvents.

Bearings without screening with lubricator

To avoid damages on the discharge roll’s bearing house and guarantee treatment uniformity: every month lubricate using a lubricator with Teflon based grease. When the bearings become noisy or lose fluidity and even with lubrication you cannot solve the problem, it is necessary to replace them. Before mounting new bearings, check their supports and shafts, these should not have clear signs of wear.

Bearings with metallic screening

To avoid damages on the discharge roll’s bearing house and guarantee treatment uniformity.

These bearings have a lubricate system called “long-life”. The lifetime depends on different parameters (temperature, discharges, ozone presence, dirt, etc.). When the bearings become noisy or lose fluidity, it is necessary to replace them. Before mounting new bearings, check their supports and shafts, these should not have clear signs of wear.
