i-Label Project

The companies supporting the i-Label project have come up with an innovative solution to significantly reduce the environmental impact of fast-moving consumer goods for packaging, leading to tangible results in terms of cost-saving strategies, ethics and environmental sustainability. The key components are:

  1. development of innovative processes in the printing, labelling and packaging fields, through linerless labels without silicone support, which reduce waste as well as packaging and transportation costs
  2. manufacturing of smart labels which provide information based on the inputs received from the outside (for instance, adapting the expiration date of a good to product-safety information), holding citizens accountable for the environment.

The smart label is equipped with an electronic system, which can provide relevant information to the consumer. For instance, in case a package is opened, the label recognises this event through the opening of an electronic circuit inside the label itself. Moreover, when carrying out product authenticity checks, for anti-counterfeiting purposes, the label provides a distinct code, which allows through an app, to check the authenticity of the product.
