In Air Plasma

In Air Plasma operates at atmospheric pressure and ensures excellent wettability of polymers, plastics, cardboard and metals, facilitating the application of inks, paints, adhesives and coatings.

Suitable for treating small surfaces of three-dimensional objects, small areas of plastic substrates, profiles and sections, cables and pipes, plastic film strips or flat surfaces of high thickness.

The plasma generated inside the nozzle is directed towards the substrate to be treated by a flow of compressed air. The system can be integrated into new or existing production lines and consists of:

  • high-frequency digital generator with transformer (integrated or detached)
  • one or more discharge nozzles (maximum 4) made of stainless materials, connected to the generator by a shielded cable and equipped with a pressure regulator with pressure gauge.

The treatment width of each individual nozzle is approximately 10 mm.

Unlike corona treatment, plasma treatment does not produce ozone.

1 In Air Plasma with integrated transformer

In the integrated transformer version, the generator and transformer are housed in a single box that can be easily mounted on the customer's line without the need for special fixings.

A 2.5 m long high-tension cable connects the generator to the discharge nozzle.

The total size of the equipment does not change even when using more than one nozzle and more than one transformer.

Main applications

  • Printing: pad printing, ink jet, screen printing, coding for cables, pipes, electric cables
  • Coating: bonding of gaskets, folding/gluing line, flocking of rubber and plastic
  • Cleaning: removal of oil and dust on plastic, steel, metal and work in progress materials.

In converting and folding carton operations, the treatment is mostly used on folding/gluing lines in order to activate the surface before the application of the glue.

In the production of boxes or other container made of plastic materials or plasticized, this treatment enhances the bonding of glue.

2 In Air Plasma with detached transformer

The detached transformer version has been designed and manufactured to meet special flexibility and usability needs of some customers.

The transformer, housed in a small box, may be also installed on a robotic arm, while the generator box may be placed at the proper distance. The solution is suitable in the following cases:

  • on robotic lines (the discharge nozzle should be able to move freely along with the robotic arm, adapting the treatment path to the shape of the object to treat)
  • when the length of the shielded cable connecting the discharge nozzle to the transformer (2.5 m) is a limit to the nozzle moving
  • when treating uneven surfaces and challenging shapes.

Often, materials used in the manufacturing sector need to have particular surface characteristics. Plasma treatment cleans and activates plastics, cardboard and metals.
