i-Label Project
The companies supporting the i-Label project have come up with an innovative solution to significantly reduce the environmental impact of fast-moving consumer goods for packaging, leading to tangible results in terms of cost-saving strategies, ethics and environmental sustainability. The key components are:
- development of innovative processes in the printing, labelling and packaging fields, through linerless labels without silicone support, which reduce waste as well as packaging and transportation costs
- manufacturing of smart labels which provide information based on the inputs received from the outside (for instance, adapting the expiration date of a good to product-safety information), holding citizens accountable for the environment.
The smart label is equipped with an electronic system, which can provide relevant information to the consumer. For instance, in case a package is opened, the label recognises this event through the opening of an electronic circuit inside the label itself. Moreover, when carrying out product authenticity checks, for anti-counterfeiting purposes, the label provides a distinct code, which allows through an app, to check the authenticity of the product.
